How to Get More Drifters in Corsair Cove

Separate an assignment shortage from a true population shortage before sending a ship for recruits.

When a building or ship is waiting for people, first decide whether the cove needs more pirates or simply needs current pirates released from other jobs.

Check the two population numbers

Drifters are unassigned pirates. Assigned pirates have already become Builders, Fetchers, production workers, or ship Crew. A low Drifter count can therefore mean that the existing population is busy, not that the total population is too small.

Open the population overview and compare Drifters with assigned roles. If one low-priority activity is using the last available Hands, solve that assignment before looking for a new population source.

Free Drifters from lower-priority work

Pause a building or construction job that can safely wait. Pausing releases its assigned workers so they can fill the task that is blocking progress. Start with optional or stockpiled production instead of interrupting the food, drink, or other upkeep serving the camp.

Use the pirate roles guide to identify the job consuming the people you need. Releasing an island assignment is different from dismissing ship Crew, so do not treat the two actions as interchangeable.

Make housing ready

Drifters do not have role-specific upkeep, but they still need Housing. Check spare capacity in the Pirate Camp that will receive them before adding more people. Housing alone does not recruit a new group; it prevents an incoming group from creating another immediate shortage.

The housing database lists confirmed capacity and unlock requirements without assuming that an unavailable cost is zero.

Find events that award crew

World Map events show their potential loot before the ship commits. Events can award new crew, and Prisoner Ship events are a confirmed place to look when the cove needs more people. The reward, timing, and availability are event-dependent, so do not assume that every encounter or every map marker provides recruits.

Prepare the ship, compare the event recommendation, and keep enough people on the island to maintain essential production while the Crew is away. The first expedition guide covers the pier, hull, Crew, and supply checks.

Avoid turning one shortage into another

Ship events can cost Crew, while accepting more pirates can increase the population that needs Housing and camp support. Before sailing for recruits:

  1. Keep essential food and drink running.
  2. Leave enough Hands for critical Fetcher and production jobs.
  3. Reserve Housing for the people you expect to add.
  4. Read the event's visible rewards and recommendation instead of choosing by distance alone.

There is no fixed population target that fits every cove. The useful target is enough available people to staff the next task without breaking the camp that already works.
