Corsair Cove Sea Event Combat Guide
A higher roll helps an action, but only a matching counter can cancel the opponent's action.
Table of contents
Sea events resolve one turn at a time. The objective, the opponent's announced action, your selected card, and the dice result all matter; a high roll by itself is not a complete strategy.
Read the objective before choosing damage
Not every event is a straight fight. An objective may ask the ship to close distance, escape, acquire goods, or complete another task instead of reducing enemy Health or Crew. Read the current objective and choose an action that advances it.
Use the event mechanics reference to check the known objective vocabulary and the published dice range for tiers 1 through 4.
Read the opponent action every turn
The opponent shows its next action before you commit yours. This is the decision point: either counter the threatened area or spend the turn advancing your own objective.
An opponent attack is negated only when your action actively counters the same area and your roll is higher. A higher roll on an unrelated action does not erase what the opponent selected.
Understand what the dice change
The dice determine the degree of success for the selected actions. More dice improve the available roll; they do not automatically repeat a card once per die, and they do not turn unrelated actions into a counter.
If your action targets enemy Health while the opponent targets your Crew, both actions can still take effect in their respective areas. Compare the rolls inside the actions being resolved rather than treating the turn as one winner-takes-all roll.
Protect both loss conditions
Your ship has separate Health and Crew. Reaching zero in either loses the encounter, so a hull that can absorb damage may still fail when its Crew is exposed. Check both values before choosing an aggressive action that leaves the opponent's announced attack unanswered.
The ship role matcher can filter hulls by an event's stated class and tier, but it does not predict a win or replace the turn decisions.
Recover Supplies with Support actions
Most Battle actions spend Supplies; the cost appears in the diamond on the action. When Supplies run low, switch from Battle actions to Support actions to recover enough to continue. Spending the last Supplies on a card that does not advance the objective can leave the ship with only limited choices next turn.
Before committing a costly action, check:
- Does it advance the current objective?
- Does it counter the opponent in the same area?
- Can Health and Crew survive if both actions resolve?
- Will enough Supplies remain for the next turn?
Decide whether to continue sailing
After winning an event, the ship can return to port or continue to another event. Continuing keeps the current expedition moving, but it also carries forward the need to protect Crew, Health, and Supplies. Return when the next visible task would rely on a resource or margin the ship no longer has.
For the pre-departure checks, use the first expedition guide.
